Breast implants can be placed either below or above the pectoral muscle, depending on the aesthetic goals of the patient. While placing the implant beneath the pectoral muscle results in a more natural appearance, it also entails a more complex surgical procedure and a longer healing time with greater discomfort. That said, Dr. Freund is able to produce excellent results with either placement technique.

Typically, Dr. Freund inserts breast implants through one of three possible incision sites: under the breast, around the areola, and in the underarm. Some surgeons place breast implants through the belly button, a technique that Dr. Freund has rejected as too risky.
