To minimize excessive bleeding and swelling and ensure a safe recovery, Dr. Freund requires you to rest with your head propped upright and raised higher than your heart after surgery. Once the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to the top of the nose and will stay in place for five to seven days for protection and to help minimize swelling. A small amount of bleeding and mucus drainage is quite common during the days following the procedure. In most cases, patients experience temporary swelling and bruising that can last for up to three weeks, immediately following their surgery. Dr. Freund predicts patients will see impeccable results within three to six months after undergoing rhinoplasty.
