Candidates for Thigh Lift Surgery
Like most cosmetic surgeries, thigh lift is not a one-size-fits-all type of procedure. Dr. Freund customizes surgical plans for each patient according to their concerns and the results they would like to achieve. Some patients acquire fat and excess skin on the inner or outer thighs, while others need lifting all over.
There are many types of patients who choose to undergo thigh lift surgery. Patients who have undergone massive weight loss often retain excess skin on their thighs. During weight gain, skin loses elasticity and often does not retract, even after a patient has lost weight. Thigh lift is also a common treatment for female patients who have recently had children and experienced weight gain on their thighs and other parts of the body. Other thigh lift patients are those who simply have a difficult time losing excess fat deposits on their thighs, even though they have achieved a healthy weight through regular diet and exercise.
The type of thigh lift you receive will depend greatly on the region of your thighs that requires contouring. Dr. Freund combines different techniques to address these areas, while ensuring any visible scarring is minimized. Liposuction can be combined with any type of thigh lift for additional fat reduction.
Inner Thigh Lift
Inner thigh lift surgery removes excess fat deposits between the legs, just below the groin area. For an inner thigh lift, Dr. Freund makes incisions where the inner thigh meets the groin area. These incisions are very discreet and usually completely unnoticeable. Through these incisions, Dr. Freund excises skin and fat, pulling the skin and underlying tissues upward and redraping them in a smoother, sleeker shape.
Bilateral Thigh Lift
A bilateral thigh lift addresses excess skin and fat on the front and outside of each thigh. During surgery, Dr. Freund creates incisions on the outside of each thigh near the bikini line. The size of this incision depends upon the amount of excess skin and fat each patient has. From these incisions, Dr. Freund lifts and removes excess skin and fat, then tightens and redrapes remaining tissues before closing each incision. This type of thigh lift not only lifts the sides and front of the thighs, but can also provide some lift to the buttocks. This technique results in the most visible scarring, but can achieve the most dramatic results.
Medial Thigh Lift
A medial thigh lift is similar to an inner thigh lift, but employs slightly different incisions. Medial thigh lift incisions begin at the groin and extend through the inner thighs, reaching back to the crease underneath the buttocks. Through these incisions, Dr. Freund can lift the inner and back thighs, remove excess skin and fat, and redrape the remaining tissue in a more taut, lifted position.
Deciding if Thigh Lift is Right for You
Thigh lift surgery can have a substantial impact on your appearance and confidence. Unlike some other cosmetic procedures, however, such as facelift and breast augmentation, thigh lift does require a longer period of recovery. You should plan to rest for several days following surgery and take one to two weeks off from work or other commitments while you heal. Since we use our legs every day, it is important that you rest for as long as necessary so you do not disturb your stitches after surgery.
Many patients choose to undergo thigh lift as part of a mommy makeover or full body lift. Many patients who are concerned with excess skin and fat on their thighs have also developed trouble areas elsewhere, such as their arms and abdomens. Dr. Freund will create a surgical plan that can address all of your areas of concern in the most efficient and cost-effective way.
